Covenant of Protection III
August 14, 2010By Joneen Horton

How are you doing in the Psalm 91 study?  So far, we've discussed verses 1-12 and are now looking at the final verses: 13 through 16.

"Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.

Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.  With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation." (Psalm 91:13-16)1

In the first of this series we discussed using your concordance.  It is always a good idea to use a concordance when reading your Bible; sometimes words we believe to be common will have a significantly different definition.  For example, name in verse 14 means; reputation, fame and glory.2

In verse 13, we learn that we have dominion over wicked men (lion) and the enemy (adder, serpent) they are trampled under our feet, because we are seated above with God.  He says that simply because we have known His name - His reputation, the fame of Him, His glory- His character;  He promises to deliver us and 'set us on high' - that is high above tragedy, adversity, catastrophe and destruction! Hallelujah!

He is always with us, when we're in the midst of trouble we call to Him and He will answer and deliver us.  He will give us a long life and we will enjoy His salvation (deliverance, welfare, prosperity) - here in this earth.  Psalm 91 gives me courage and hope; I pray that you have begun to get an understanding of your covenant and will continue to study and become rooted in these precious promises God has given you.

To provide an understanding of living by faith.
God honors the covenant of marriage and He has shown us repeatedly that He is for us. He has surrounded us with friends, family, Pastors who build us up and encourage us to hold on to the covenant.
The greatest lesson I have learned is; at times I must "Be still, and know that [He is] God: [He] will be exalted among the heathen, [He] will be exalted in the earth." (Psalm 46:10)
