Title:

The Body Beautiful II

Objective:

Explain how to dress for your body type.

What:

Knowing your body type is the first step in creating a sharper more polished image.  Armed with this valuable piece of information, let’s delve further by learning what to wear for your body type.

Why:

Why should I dress according to my body type?

·        To flatter and accentuate areas of the body whole camouflaging areas of concern.

·        To purchase clothing in the proper sizes or have correct alterations made.

·        To create a positive image through visual balance.

·        To eliminate "buyer’s remorse”.

Visual balance: aesthetically (appeals to the senses) pleasing combination of color, line, shape or texture that creates an equally proportioned appearance.

How:

How do I dress according to my body type?

·        Know a few basic tips based on body type.

·        Use your own judgment to determine what areas you’d like to flatter or camouflage.

·        Experiment and have fun!

Hourglass:

·        Select fabrics that drape your curves without being too tight.

·        Dressing in one color scheme from head to toe accentuates your figure and is an easy way to achieve visual balance.

·        Horizontal or wide stripes will create the illusion of more weight, avoid if you’re seeking a more slender look.

Triangle:

·        If you are seeking to slenderize the bottom area of your body, avoid horizontal stripes as it caused the eye to travel from side to side and gives the illusion of more mass.

·        Look for open necklines on blouses, that will make you look wider on the top half of your body, and it will create balance with the bottom half.

·        Wear larger prints on the top half of your body.

Wedge:

·        If you want to draw attention to your bottom half, especially those gorgeous legs, wear darker colors on your top half.

·        Try skirts that fall right above the knee (don’t go too short, modesty matters!), and brighter colors on the bottom.

·        Vertical stripes look good on you, yet avoid busy prints.

Rectangle:

·        Like the hourglass, one color from head to toe works well with your body type.

·        To create the illusion of a more defined waist, wear tops tucked inside your skirt or pant and add a slim belt.

·        Dresses are a great choice for you! Try dresses with a dropped waist or a sheath style.

These are tips, not rules, so ask yourself these three basic questions when shopping:

·        Does this item help to create visual balance?

·        Does it flatter the areas I desire?

·        Does it camouflage my areas of concern?

Conclusion:

God has created each of us in His image therefore as His divine image; we are beautiful (Psalm 139:14).  Have fun trying on different clothing styles and highlighting the various areas of your body.  Always remember, your beauty is more than skin deep.  Keep your Spirit filled with the Word of God and let the outer you be an enhancement to the inner beauty you radiate.
