Call Waiting
October 1, 2006By Joneen Horton

Call waiting and caller id, telephone features that we can’t seem to do without.  Remember when you knew the busy signal meant the person you wanted to speak with was home, yet unavailable to speak to you?  Now with call waiting and caller id, they may be home or on a call, however just not taking your call.  They’re both great features, yet frustrating for the caller who doesn’t get an answer or for the speaker who gets interrupted by a beep when they’re in the midst of a conversation.  I try to answer all calls. What if the second call coming in is important?  Does the second call make the first call of no importance? How do you decide?  Here’s another interesting question:

Do we go through our everyday lives busy with work, school, or whatever and not take God’s calls?  Do we hear the beep and not answer, because what we’re doing now is more important than the call waiting?

Created for a Purpose

God is a purposeful God therefore no one is born as an accident or a mistake. We are all here to fulfill a specific role.  We must seek God to discover what His plan is for our life.

Before I formed you in the womb I knew [and] approved of you [as My chosen instrument], and before you were born I separated and set you apart, consecrating you; [and] I appointed you as a prophet [1] to the nations. Jeremiah 1:5 (KJVA)

Plentiful Harvest…Few Laborers

The Body of Christ consists of each believer.  We are the hands, feet, arms and legs of God in this earth.  God has given us His Holy Spirit and His power to fulfill His will: [2] that we will draw men to Jesus so that all men can be reconciled to God. [3]

The Apostle Paul reminds the Colossians (and us too) that everything we do should be done as if we are serving the Lord.[4]

Many of us spend a large part of our lives serving ourselves or other men.  We seek wealth, prestige, or power. While we are pursing these things we lose sight of the promise of God. We fail to recognize that as we seek to do the will of God, all the other things we futilely pursue He will give them to us. [5]

Doing Our Own Thing, Leaves Us Feeling Empty

I have met many women who say they feel so empty, as if there existence has no true meaning.  This is when I know that I am speaking with someone who has kept her call waiting.  Once you begin to step into the destiny for your life the fulfillment will come.  It is an amazing feeling!

Remember what the Apostle Paul said in Colossians 3:23-24; maybe your call is to work as a day care provider for 20 years.  In that position, you magnify the Lord and let your life be a living testimony of our God.  He will see to it that your "job” will have eternal benefits; as people come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior as a result of watching you.

There is much to be done within the Kingdom of God.  Jesus said: "The harvest [the lost] truly is plenteous, but the labourers [believers who answer the call for their lives] are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.” (Matthew 9:37-38)

Let God lead you into a life of fulfillment and peace, I encourage you to not keep His call waiting.

In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths. Proverbs 3:6 (KJVA)
