Oftentimes we allow ourselves to determine what we like or dislike and what we will or will not do solely on others opinions. Peer pressure is not merely an adolescent or childhood phenomena, as adults we call it "people pleasing”.
If we derive our self-worth and self-esteem from what we do, what we wear, where we live, others opinions about us, etc., then we will succumb to the desire to please people rather than pleasing God.[1]
As we study the Word of God, we begin to see ourselves as His own precious, unique creation. That knowledge is freeing! It allows us to be our own unique selves deriving our worth from what He has said about us. Having a healthy, self esteem, because we know that we are… fearfully and wonderfully made.[2]
We are free from others in order to live in accordance to the Word and will of God. Our freedom in Christ is not a license to live recklessly. [3] Our freedom is a license to boldly obey God in deference to what others will think or say about us. A key point to remember each day is: that no man has power or authority over us to send us to heaven or hell. [4]
There may be times when what God says to do goes "against the norm”. There is nothing wrong with going against the norm when you are going with God! If it lines up with the Word of God then don’t let people talk you out of your destiny.
Once you know the truth about who you are created to be that truth will set you free.[5] Free from fear, doubt, mediocrity, people…or whatever is trying to prevent you from fulfilling the will of God for your life. Receive your deliverance from people…you have been made free. Now boldly do what the Father has created only you to do!
