Covenant of Protection

By Joneen M. Horton
Psalm 91 is our covenant of protection from almighty God; it is both irrevocable and unbreakable.

Covenant: a pact, a promise, an agreement.

Psalm 91 is our covenant of protection from almighty God; it is both irrevocable and unbreakable. To understand what is available to us in this covenant we need to become familiar with it, so let’s look at the first six verses of our Covenant of Protection.

"He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday." (Psalm 91:1-6, King James Version)

Most of us are familiar with agreements which contain clauses listing benefits we have access to. Auto insurance, health insurance, or life insurance are a few examples.  In fact, in some organizations, the agreements we have are titled “Covenants”.

Psalm 91 is our "Protection Agreement".  It is a covenant between God and His children, and each verse details our benefits. Begin studying and meditating on Psalm 91 until you know this agreement better than any other.  I encourage you to grab a concordance and study the meaning of the words noisome, pestilence, refuge and others.

Once you fully internalize your covenant of protection, you'll experience a freedom from fear of tragedy, catastrophe or destruction that is inexplicable!  You will walk in Philippians 4:7…the peace of God which passes all understanding will keep your heart and mind through Christ Jesus.
